Frequently asked questions

what is permanent make-up?

Permanent make-up, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is a method of applying pigments into the skin to enhance facial features. It can be used to define and enhance lips, eyes and eyebrows. The procedure is performed using a specialized machine that uses tiny needles which are dipped into the pigments. Professional technicians use a numbing gel in order to make the procedure more comfortable for clients. The procedure must be done by a professional who has been trained in permanent makeup techniques.

The goal of permanent make-up is to create a natural look that lasts longer than traditional makeup. Permanent make-up can give you a more natural look by adding definition and colour to your features. It is a great way to save time and money on everyday make-up applications, while still achieving the desired look.
With permanent make-up, you don't have to worry about smudging or smearing throughout the day.
After your first session, a 6 week follow up / touch-up session is required in order to analyse the healed results. In the touch-up session, the technician may reapply pigment to skin to ensure that the color remains consistent and vibrant. By getting a touch up after 6 weeks, you can be sure that your permanent makeup will last longer and look it's best. The 6 week touch up also gives the technician an opportunity to make any adjustments or changes that you want in order to achieve the desired result.

Thereafter a yearly touch-up is required to maintain the desired look. This is because the pigment can fade over time. With proper care and maintenance, permanent make up can last for many years.

Do I need a 6 week touch-up appointment?

After your first session, a 6 week follow up / touch-up session is required in order to analyse the healed results. This appointment is at an additional cost.

Your first yearly colour boost session is at a lower cost than your initial session. Thereafter the procedure is charged at the full rate. A yearly colour boost is required because the pigment can fade over time. With proper care and maintenance, permanent make up can last for 2-3 years without a yearly colour boost. However, clients who wish to keep their permanent mak-up looking fresh & vibrant will still do a yearly colour boost.

how long does permanent make-up last?

The length of time your cosmetic tattoo will last depends on the individual and their lifestyle. With proper care during the healing process, permanent make-up can last anywhere from 2 to 4 years before needing a touch-up. Aftercare is key in ensuring long-lasting results, as improper healing can lead to fading or discolouration over time. Generally, it is recommended that you get a 6 week touch up after your initial treatment in order to ensure the best results possible.

is the permanent make-up procedure painful?

Many people are concerned about the pain associated with the procedure of cosmetic tattooing. Fortunately, there are several methods available to reduce discomfort and make the experience more comfortable for clients. Numbing gel is used throughout the session in order to lessen sensitivity and reduce pain during the procedure. Additionally, experienced technicians should be able to perform the procedure in a way that minimizes discomfort for their clients.

how long does the procedure of permanent make-up take?

The process of permanent make-up can take anywhere from two to three hours, depending on the complexity of the design and the area being worked on. During this time, a qualified technician will work with you to map the template or design that best suits your facial features and preferences. After the mapping process is complete, your technician will start the tattoo process and apply pre-numbing gel. Once complete, you will have permanent makeup that looks natural and will last up to three years before needing any touch-ups.

why is my cosmetic tattoo so dark?

It is important to remember that the colour directly after the procedure is very bright. Some individuals may find their cosmetic tattoos too dark directly after the procedure. This is because the colour of the tattoo will fade up to 50% lighter within the next few days of healing. 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure it will settle to its final colour.

If you have hyperpigmentation / dark discolouration on the lips, a colour correction session or two may be required before we start introducing the desired colour of your lip blush tattoo.
The same applies to previous permanent make-up work. If the colour of your brows for example has changed over time from previous cosmetic tattooing, we will need to do a colour correction session.

what is the difference between microblading and powder / ombre brows?

Over the years of evolution in cosmetic tattooing, we have found ourselves with an array of permanenet make-up applcation techniques.
Microblading being one of the more outdated techniques uses a blade-like tool to perform the individual hairstrokes of the eyebrow. Pigment is then inserted after the hairstrokes have been made with the tool. This technique actually causes more trauma to the skin during the procedure & the skin has a difficult time healing when a blade tool is used to cut the skin & insert pigment. Microblading lasts about a year to a year and a half.
Whereas with Shaded or Powder brows a tattoo machine is used to create the ombre effect of the eyebrow and pigment is injected into the skin simultaneously. The permanent make-up technician has a lot more control over the desired outcome of the final look.
Powder / Ombre brows has a more natural shaded look and can last anywhere from 2-5 years.

what is lash enhancing eyeliner?

Lash enhancing eyeliner is a cosmetic tattoo procedure. Using permanent make-up pigments and a tattoo machine to give your eyes a fuller, more defined lash line. It is an alternative to traditional eyeliner. Lash enhancing eyeliner can last up to three years and can be used to enhance the look of your lashes without the need for daily application. The procedure involves using a fine needle and pigment to create a subtle, natural-looking line along the upper and lower lash lines. The result is a fuller, more defined lash line that looks like you’re wearing mascara or eyeliner all day long. This semi-permanent make-up technique can also be used to create an overall look of thicker, longer lashes for those who have sparse or thinning lashes.

what is lip-blushing?

Lip blushing is a relatively new and popular cosmetic procedure that enhances the natural color and shape of the lips. It is a form of permanent makeup that involves tattooing the lips with a semi-permanent pigment to give them a natural-looking tint. The procedure is done using a small needle that injects the pigment into the lips, creating a subtle and natural-looking color.

The result is a fuller, more defined lip shape that looks like you are wearing lipstick all the time. The procedure typically takes around 2 hours and can last up to 2-3 years, depending on the individual's skin type and lifestyle.

How long does make-up application take?

Applying make-up can be a time-consuming process, but it doesn't have to take too long. Depending on the look you are going for, it can take between one and two hours to apply make-up. If you want to add individual false eyelashes, this will add an extra amount of time to your make-up application.
A standard look takes one hour from start to finish.
